Indoor Bouldering for beginners Aiguille Rock Climbing Center

Looking for a new experience? I was! I have been talking about going indoor bouldering for years. Better known as rock climbing – indoor rock climbing. I am not a fan of the hot Florida sun and I am afraid of heights. So starting the New Year right, I decided to finally do it. Since I was in Orlando Florida, I had to find an Orlando indoor bouldering for beginners – rock climbing center. With Googles help I found Aiguille … yeah, that is an interesting name.

Indoor Bouldering For beginners – that would be my family and me.

From the get go I was thinking: I just hope no one breaks a bone or something. The experience was nerve racking and exciting. My new year’s resolution or what I call my new motto in life is; Life is about the experiences. In order to live life, enjoy life, you have to have experiences. People call it creating memories. I call it trying new things because I am a creature of habit.

Aiguille rock climbing center is the only dedicated climbing facility in the Orlando area. Aiguille has 10,000 square feet of climbing walls up to 36 feet high. It caters to beginners like me and to levels far beyond my scope. I’m talking, some of the people I saw climbing there would put Tom Cruise and his Mission Impossible mountain climbing skills to shame.

Sign waiver. Me – why?

On your first visit, especially if you are a beginner like me, they have you sign a waiver. I am sure they have you do this every visit. Me, I personally hate signing waivers because I know why they have them. So you can’t sue them if something goes wrong. Yeah, makes me feel real comfortable – not.

I thought when they offered a training class that they would teach us a lot. You know, how to use the equipment. How to safely climb and so forth. What we got was a major lesson in how to put on the harness, tie the figure eight knot and how to properly belay. Being the belayer means you are the person on the other end of the rope that makes sure the person climbing doesn’t get hurt. By that I mean I had to trust my two children enough to secure a rope that kept me from falling 36 feet to the ground (hence the waiver).

New Experience Boulder Climbing

While Aiguille promotes rock climbing as a “It’s time to make rock climbing part of your workout routine”, as if it were a daily routine on there website. I will admit it was a new experience for me, something I may do again, and possibly often. Never mind that I have issues with heights. Oddly enough my family says I am a natural and the heights, it did not affect me too much (maybe because I had a safety rope attached to me).

As a family experience, I think it may be fun to continue doing this as a family. My daughter already wants to sign up for a membership and like I said, I would like to do it again. If you want my honest opinion, if you have never done it and are considering it – do it. I would recommend it to anyone. I would also recommend Aiguille Rock Climbing Center to everyone who ask me. They did a great job, amazing design and the place is large with many options.
