Life is about the experiences: Great food, fine wine and amazing music is one of the best experiences you can have. Since my new motto in life is to have more experiences I have been trying out new places. Take for instance this amazing night life restaurant I found in Oviedo Orlando Florida.
De La Vega – Rum Tapas Tequila
De La Vega is a high-end restaurant with atmosphere to match. The prices are not that high but fairly pricey. The De La Vega is a, in my opinion, a place to enjoy your drink. Rum, tequila and the special drink of (this) night: coqui with Don Q. Yes I tried the sample and I only have one word – strong. Oh it was really strong for such small amount – wow!
The service is commendable, they give you the service you expect. You are made to feel as if you are the most important person there. They serve you water in glass wine bottles and everything screams elegance. I guess it’s what my daughter would call posh, really posh. I almost felt as if I did not belong as I wore shorts and a plaid shirt.
Best Restaurants in Orlando Florida
The odd thing about the place is that I expect this place to be located at the beach in Miami or in the middle of the city in Manhattan. Yet here is sits in Oviedo Florida surrounded by a community dominated by a college campus (UCF). But it is a nice change of pace.
While the dishes look like works of art I will admit that the portions, for some of the dishes we ordered were on the small side. Oops I stand corrected (my wife is correcting me even as I write) their dishes were tapas – appetizers. Which, in here opinion, are large potions – you be the judge.
Mr. Finicky said Delicious
We all enjoyed our dishes and my son said it was delicious and he is a finicky eater, not to mention he is allergic to almost everything. He especially loved the hibiscus-chocolate tart. I couldn’t believe it.
I want to thank Dillon and all the staff at De La Vega. My new motto is that life is about experiences and we had a pleasant enjoyable experience at De La Vega.
I was a bit disappointed, I was getting ready to leave and the musicians walked in. I actually spent five minutes talking with them (wife was embarrassed). Hey, I just wanted to ask a few questions. I now know they are from Puerto Rico, Miami Florida (family from Colombia) and they have been playing there for years.
De La Vega Rum Tapas Tequila has live music every Friday night and the place gets full after 6:30 pm. I have to admit it is a nice, really nice place to enjoy a wonderfully prepared meal with excellent service and a delightful atmosphere. The Latin feel is in the air, the elegance of the restaurant and the live music has to make this a must go to place, especially if you like the night life feel.
I agree with their website: Chef Nora combines tradition and innovation in her creations. Her dishes are definitely an artwork that mix and complement perfectly with the ones hanging on the walls.
If you like Rum, they seem to specialize in all drinks Rum. They even have the flan (wife order some) made with Rum. Check out the choices of Rum: www.delavegabar.com/menu
A Place for Everyone
My daughter wanted to know if we could reserve this restaurant for when she graduates (a few months away) but was concerned about her grandfather who has become a pescatarian. After looking over the menu and checking the website we learned that the menu fits your diet even if you’re a vegetarian, vegan or gluten-free. Which made her happy.
The chef is Nora De La Vega, which I assume is also the owner or co-owner of the De La Vega Rum Tapas Tequila restaurant. The manager is Mano De La Vega (not sure what the relationship is).
I truly enjoyed the food, the service and the atmosphere – I would recommend this place to everyone.
