Does Jekyll Island have a beach?

Yes, Jekyll Island has beaches and they are an amazing site to behold. I myself am not a fan of going to the beach, the sun and its harmful effects are not friends. But I will admit that while being wowed by the videos I saw about Jekyll Islands beaches. Nothing compares to standing on its shore enjoying the ocean and its sunset.

“The beaches on Jekyll Island are unlike those of any other coastal destination. Best known for their natural bounty, each of Jekyll Island’s beaches is completely different than the other.”

Is it true? Is the water brown?

From what I understand, the seawater at Jekyll Island is brown due to what they call churned-up sediment and tannins that wash offshore from swamp and marshes. The sea floor is muddy, not sandy – again, due to the sediments that are deposited by two large rivers that flow nearby, into the ocean.

Like all beaches, Jekyll Island beach sand appears white as most beaches do. The sand barrier island tends to appear brown or grey when wet. I am hoping this does not affect our stay since my wife like many have “particularities” when it comes to preferences. She loves the beach and expects a certain look, feel and appearance.
